When it comes to first impressions entryways communicate. That’s why people choose to design their doors, walls, garden gates, bookcases, and in many other places use an arched design which creates a unique look in their home décor.
So if you want to make one follow our step-by-step the easiest way how to make a curved wooden arch at home with perfection. It can also be a cool DIY project that you can make at home.
How To Make A Curved Wooden Arch? (6 Easy Steps)
There are many ways to draw a perfect arch. But which one you want to go with depends on the size of your arch. Or you can also use any one way for making the half of a big arch and then shift on to the other half. Here we are going to explain the ways that can be used both ways and this is also very efficient and beginner-friendly.
Now here, as an example, we are going to create an arch that will be 42-inches across and 3-inches tall. You can always customize this measurement according to your preference.
Tools That You Need To Draw An Arch
- A piece of MDF with 3 inches in height
- Marker
- Jigsaw
- Measuring Tape
- Hammer
- 3 big nails
- A large level
- A large piece of brown paper for making the template
Steps To Draw The Perfect Arch
In this method, we are going to create a baseline known as a chord of 42-inches across and it’s going to be 3-inches tall. Let’s discuss the steps:
- Take a piece of MDF which will be 3-inches tall and mark the center which is the half of 42 using a measuring tape
- Now strike a line down from the halfway point down to the diagonally opposite corner and cut that out using a jigsaw. So now you have a tapered board which is one half of the chord
- Now draw a baseline bigger than 42-inches using a large level and measure out the 42-inch from this line and also its center point. The starting point will be point A and the ending point will be point B, and the center point will be point C
- Nail down two nails with a hammer in points A and B and one nail in center point 3-inches upwards
- Now mark the arch in the 21-inch center and cut a small curb there
- Put your arch on top of the baseline, against the nails, and under the point A nail which will help you to drag the arch in a curved way
- Place your marker in the center curb; move the arch with the marker altogether downwards against the nails
- This way you can finally see the half-formed arch and repeat the same to draw the other half
There are two ways that you can use to cut your arch halfway or full depending on the size. This depends on you. Here we are going to explain how you can cut a large wooden piece for a curved arch.
Tools That You’ll Need To Curve Your Arch
- Wood router saw
- Drill
- Half-inch diameter straight bit
- A piece of half-inch plywood
- 4 sheets of plywood
- Wood glue
- Nails
Step By Step Wooden Arch Making Process
If you want to cut several arch pieces at a time then follow our step by step guidelines planned down below:
Step 1: Transfer The Arch Measurements
firstly, the template we made earlier needs to be transferred to the plywood sheets you are going to cut for those arches. You have a marker to draw the lines on all the plywood sheets you are going to use for arch making.
Step 2: Prepare The Plywood
The first thing you have to do is to cut a piece of plywood the same width as the diameter of the router bottom plate. Then you have to mount your router saw on the half-inch plywood piece. Cut it up to 6-feet long so to have some extra.
Now place your router base plate on one side of the plywood and drill some holes where the nuts are going to go. Now it’s time to mount your router on the plywood. Attach the router with the plate and plywood in between with some nuts to hold it tight. Now attach your straight bit with the router which is going to cut the sheets.
Step 3: Make A Clamping Hole
After you’ve mounted your router on the plywood it’s time to make a clamping hole that will hold the plywood in place while cutting the wooden sheets. Now as we need a 42-inch arch the clamping hole should be around 21-inch. Use a measuring tape and mark at 21-inch and drill a clamping hole.
Step 4: Prepare sheets for cutting
On the table place four sheets of plywood that will be more than 42-ich in diameter. This way you can cut 4 pieces at a time. Screw them altogether.
Step 5: Arch Cutting
Now drill a hole in the middle on the plywood sheets. Place your plywood in the middle and fix it tightly with a nut. Now start cutting four arches at a time with one round wipe. Make the second-round cut measuring 3-inches tall. Your arch is ready to be glued.
Step 6: Glue The Arches
Now as your arches are ready use waterproof wood glue to glue down two sheets together and drill some nails to make the joint stronger. Sand down the edges and add two coats of wood finish as a final touch. Now your curved wooden arch is ready to be installed.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How To Make An Arch Out Of Plywood
Building an arch out of plywood is a simple and inexpensive way to add a touch of architectural interest to a room. This project can be completed on a weekend, and the finished arch can be painted or stained to match your decor.
To build an arch out of plywood, you will need:
- A sheet of plywood
- A jigsaw
- Sandpaper
- Paint or stain (optional)
Begin by sketching out your desired arch shape on the plywood. Use a pencil to mark the cut lines, and then cut along these lines with a jigsaw.

How Do You Make A Curved Arbor?
Building a curved arbor is a great way to add interest and appeal to your garden. This type of arbor can be made from a variety of different materials, but the most common is wood. When choosing wood for your arbor, make sure to select a durable variety that will withstand the elements. Cedar and redwood are good options.
Once you have your wood, you will need to determine the dimensions of your arbor. The length and width will be determined by the space you have available in your garden. The height can be anywhere from 6 to 8 feet.
Once you have your dimensions, mark out the area where your arbor will go. Then, using a post hole digger, dig holes for your posts. The depth of the holes should be half the height of your posts.
After the holes are dug, set the posts in place and fill the holes with concrete. Allow the concrete to cure for at least 24 hours before proceeding.
Next, it’s time to attach the beams. For this step, you will need to use a saw to cut the beams to the correct size. Then, using lag bolts, attach the beams to the posts.
Once the beams are in place, you can add the crosspieces. These can be attached using either screws or nails.
Finally, add the lattice. The best way to do this is to first attach it to the top of the arbor using screws or nails. Then, proceed to attach it to the crosspieces.
And that’s it! Your curved arbor is now complete.
How Do You Make An Arch Frame?
An arch frame is a type of frame used to support an arch. Arches are often used in doorways, windows, and other openings. Arch frames are made of wood, metal, or concrete.
Wooden arch frames are made by cutting two pieces of lumber into the desired shape and then nailing or screwing them together. Metal arch frames are made by welding or bolting together metal pieces. Concrete arch frames are made by pouring concrete into a mold.
The most important part of an arch frame is the keystone. The keystone is the topmost stone in an arch. It is wedge-shaped and fits into the arch as a keystone fits into an arch. The keystone locks the other stones in place and supports the weight of the arch.
How Do You Make A Wooden Arch Template?
If you want to make a wooden arch template, you will need some basic supplies. You will need a piece of wood that is big enough to trace the arch onto, a pencil, a ruler, and a jigsaw. First, use the ruler to draw a line down the middle of the piece of wood. Then, use the pencil to trace the outline of the arch onto the wood. Next, use the jigsaw to cut out the arch. Finally, use sandpaper to smooth out the edges of the arch.
How Do You Make A Good Wood Arch?
Building a wood arch is a relatively simple process that can be completed in a few hours. The most important thing to remember when constructing a wood arch is to make sure that the structure is level and plumb. If the arch is not level, it will not be able to support the weight of the materials that will be placed on top of it.
To build a wood arch, you will need the following materials:
- 4 wooden boards
- 1 level
- 1 tape measure
- 1 hammer
- 1 saw
The first step is to cut the four wooden boards to the desired length. The boards should be cut at a 45-degree angle so that they can fit together to form the arch.
Next, use the level to make sure that the boards are level with each other. Once the boards are level, use the hammer to nail them together.
The last step is to use the saw to cut a semi-circle out of the top of the arch. This will allow the materials that will be placed on top of the arch to have a place to rest.
Now that the wood arch is complete, it is time to place the materials on top of it. Make sure that the materials are evenly distributed on the arch so that it does not become unbalanced.
How To Make An Arch Doorway
An arch doorway is a beautiful and classic way to add interest to any home. They are also relatively easy to create, even for DIYers. Here are the basic steps for creating your own arch doorway:
